Craniomandibular Dysfunction (CMD):
Assessment & Treatment
Clicking in the jaw? Headaches caused by chewing?
In this digital course, you’ll dive into the world of craniomandibular disorders and learn practical tools to effectively support your clients.
Okay, what does that mean exactly?
Course content
This digital course focuses on understanding, recognizing, and treating craniomandibular disorders (CMD). CMD affects approximately 10–15% of the population and is a common cause of facial, head, and jaw pain. Women aged 35–50 are particularly affected, but school-age children may also exhibit early signs such as jaw pain, clicking in the temporomandibular joint, or recurring headaches, which are often overlooked in daily life.
This course helps healthcare professionals enhance their clinical practice through up-to-date knowledge, practical tools, and case-based learning. It teaches evidence-based strategies with a strong focus on functional outcomes and person-centered care—approaches that can be applied in both physical therapy practice and workplace health promotion.
Participants will deepen their clinical reasoning, improve their ability to recognize CMD symptoms at an early stage, and learn practical therapeutic approaches to effectively support patients of all ages. The goal of the course is to combine scientific findings with practical methods that therapists can immediately apply in their daily work.

Janne Säkkinen, Physical Therapist
Janne Säkkinen is a passionate physical therapist. His focus is on promoting physical performance and functional well-being—particularly in the workplace. Since 2010, he has been actively involved in occupational physical therapy and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. He currently works at Terveystalo, providing both traditional and digital workplace health services.
His core expertise lies in Orthopedic Manual Therapy (OMT), ergonomics, and evidence-based physical therapy. Over the years, he has specialized in treating complex musculoskeletal problems and helping people achieve sustainable physical performance in their daily lives and careers. Whether it’s dentists with chronic neck pain or office workers with stiff lower backs—he is driven by the challenge of finding practical and tailored solutions.
In addition to his clinical work, Janne Säkkinen has served as a guest lecturer at the University of Oulu’s Faculty of Dentistry for over seven years, teaching ergonomic strategies to future professionals. He also gives lectures nationwide on temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ) and their treatment—an area in which he has developed deep expertise. His goal remains the same: to bridge the gap between expert knowledge and practical tools that empower both professionals and patients.
